Well kudos to the brown nosing newspaper in wonderland for highlighting the fact that transsexuals do get harassed for their sexual orientation:
An Arab transsexual has been charged with soliciting men for sex, after being spotted in the street by a police patrol. He was seen dressed in women’s clothes and a wig in Exhibition Road at dawn, after leaving a hotel, a Public Prosecutor said yesterday.
The man, aged 20, tried to run away after police spotted him, but was caught. He was taken to Hoora Police Station, where his case was then transferred to the Public Prosecution. He has been detained seven days on charges of soliciting, until his case goes to court.
i think the downside though is that it’s going to be a double charge as the tgirl was more along the lines of prostituting herself and she happened to be transsexual as well. Sad, this is so sad! And just a 20 year old tgirl as well, arrested… there is no tolerance here with respect to being transsexual, or transgendered or a transvestite.
We’re all dealt with the same spoon and placed with common criminals…. that is just so sad! But then this is an Islamic country that is trying to introduce reforms and democratic notions, with democracy one must understand that there’s bound to be folks with various orientations coming out. i doubt there are any laws in place to protect the trans community, secondly in this particular case, the tgirl was selling sex, and on that basis she was arrested. i’m not sure what to say except that it’s sad and am happy that such issues are now being published. Although more care could be taken by the brown nosing newspaper’s editor in showing more understanding for the transsexual.
I wrote to the GDN about this just this morning!! First of all the correct term is transvestite or trangendered…this article should have been called Trasvestite/Transgendered Sex Worker Detained…if in fact she was a sex worker…she is NOT a transsexual as a transsexual would have to have undergone SRS or began her/his transition via hormone replacement therapy…so the term they used is incorrect to begin with! And in Bahrain, being a transgender and leaving a hotel at night automatically means ur a whore…of course…what else could it mean :rolls eyes:
The Bitch, thanks for the insight as well as for writing the GDN. Appreciate it. i think the journos there need to comprehend trans terms if they’re going to be providing coverage on the like.. but then given that most of them aren’t given continous training on other topics, i doubt they will ever change their stance when reporting on issues and news surrounding the trans community… hoping is all i can do i guess..
